Another Year, Another Memory

Two weeks ago I turned twenty years old...

Yet, I feel the same. Let's face it, turning twenty isn't a huge celebration, at least not in the United States. There are plenty of other years that we "party hard" for when it comes to age, but twenty isn't one of them. I have high hopes that being twenty will bring a better year than nineteen, and so far it has seemed to be promising. I'll have to see in the long run though!

What did I do for my big day? Well, since I wanted to celebrate still being young at heart, Alec and I went to the Pittsburgh Zoo. We had gone for our three year anniversary and it was so much fun that we wanted to go again! It was on a Friday, so naturally it was jammed packed with children and parents. I speak for both Alec and myself on this one, but when it comes to big crowds we feel like we're put in the most awkward situation that we could possibly in. Both of us being extreme introverts makes us dislike any crowded situation. Not only that but some of the parents with their children caused some unnecessary drama (luckily not with us, we did have to witness it though).

At numerous times it was so difficult to see some of the animals while the kids crowded around the exhibits. Since the zoo is a place for children and they have a hard enough time seeing while even on their tiptoes, we understood how it would be. That's when we decided that an hour before the zoo would close we would go around and check out our favorite exhibits again. That was genius idea! We were not only able to see through the exhibits but the animals had come closer to the wall. They must have calmed down a lot without many people there. It was so awesome to see them close-up! So for any future zoo-goers, if you do what we did you will probably be pretty satisfied with the results.

The time that I spent with Alec was wonderful. Even though this birthday wasn't a huge hoopla, it was still one of the best ways to spend it! Now I'm getting ready for things to go back to the old grind. My birthday has always seemed like the marking point of summer coming to an end. In less than a month I am going back to college, which I'm so excited about! I ordered my camera that I have been dying to buy and it's on its way! I hope to make a couple of videos about going back to school, maybe a haul or two about supplies, and even one about textbooks/classes. I'll make the videos available to watch on YouTube and even here! Hope to be posting again sometime soon!

It's Been Awhile!

I realized that my last post on here was made in January...

January, Brooke? Are you kidding me?

Well, I have no excuse for not posting more than I have. Although last semester was much more difficult, it's summertime for goodness-sake! Not much has been going on other than enjoying the summer. One thing I have been working up for is a camera (Canon EOS T3). Why you may ask? Whether you're dying to know or really don't give a crap, I am planning to start making videos for YouTube. Yeah... it's pretty out of my comfort zone, being a perfectionist-introvert. Since my major is Digital Media Production, I believe it will be a good start to what I want to do with my future career after I graduate. Also, by the end of my senior year I need to create a presentation on something that I've done that concerns to my major. Making videos and posting them to my YouTube channel would definitely be something I could present on. I'd better get started now since I'm already a sophomore (seriously, it doesn't seem possible) in college.

I've got a few more weeks before I have to go back to college, but I am going to make myself post on here as often as I can!

Back to School

After a five week break from college, I am now finally back in my dorm room. The new semester is here! Last semester wasn't too challenging, but it was definitely different from high school. Now that I'm used to the loads of homework that comes with each class, I feel like I'll be able to do well in my classes like I did  last semester! I'm taking 16 credits, where last semester I only took 13... so brain, don't fail me now!

Anyway, to start out the semester, something disgusting had to happen when I came back to my dorm room (because that's just my luck). I had a ton of stuff from Christmas and food supplies to carry in, including milk and leftovers from my family dinner the other night. There's a mini fridge in our room, so I figured I'd put my cold food in there without any problem. When I opened the fridge door though, the inside was very dirty. If that wasn't gross enough, there were fruit flies and ants crawling around in it. I was extremely grossed out, plus my roommate who had been there before me didn't even mention it! I'm not sure why she would have put fresh orange juice in there and not clean it out, bleh! My mom and I sanitized it real good before we put any food in there. I believe that the power must have been turned off in the entire building during break. By doing so the fridge must have had some problem and created a mess. Where the fruit flies and ants came from is still a mystery. Thank goodness they aren't invading our room after that!

Other than that, there hasn't been much going on. Today was my first day of classes and so far I can tell that I'm going to be busy. But, that's college for ya! I plan to keep updating this blog as long as I don't get too loaded with homework. Hope everything is going well for everyone, whether you've gone back to school, work, or if you've found bugs in your refrigerator.

Something New

Last week, I decided to take down all of my Christmas decorations. The new year had finally come once again. While putting everything away, I began to feel sad. Christmas is my favorite time of year, in fact I love the whole month of December. When January comes though, I never feel excited for the renewal of another year. It's not that I don't want the new year to come but it's the fact that everything that had been put on a stand still has to start again. All of the Christmas decorations come down, the vacation days disappear, and  life goes back to reality. Although those things are slightly sad to think about, the main reason why I don't really care for the new year is because of my resolutions. Every year I try to make resolutions for myself, and many times I fail to complete them. Of course, I have been successful in certain goals that I set for myself, but only because those goals were in my comfort zone. No, this year I didn't make a resolution to lose weight, eat healthier, or travel the world (although they might end up on my list for the future). Instead I made the resolution to be happy with myself.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm actually very happy! I have an amazing boyfriend, a wonderful family, and I'm going to a college that I really enjoy. Sometimes though, I feel like I want to do more to express myself in a productive way. It wasn't until my college writing teacher told me that I have a great talent when it comes to writing. That's when I thought, "Hey, maybe I should make a blog."

This idea has been in the back of my mind for over a month, and now... I'VE DECIDED TO DO IT! I realized that if I didn't take this step then I wouldn't have been satisfied with myself. I'm very excited for this blog because I want to have something that expresses me, a quiet, awkward, funny, nice, and quirky girl. To be honest, this is something that I never thought I would do. It is something that is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I know it will be worth it. Even if it is a complete fail at least I can say that I tried!

So here's to a new year and new beginnings! Cheers!
